One More Dirty DVD in Circulation

I just watched a DVD put in circulation against Levon Ter-Petrossian – with mixed feelings, but the end result was that of disgust. The DVD containing 3 parts:

  1. First part contains an utterly disgusting material – made up of total crap! The material claims that Levon Ter-Petrossian’s father was a KGB agent and used to be called Traitor Hakob in Syria, and that his grandfather was a Village Mayor in Musa Ler who was constantly cooperating with  Turks. It further claims, that Ter-Petrossian’s real father is a wealthy Turk, and not the above mentioned Traitor Hakob and a lot more crap in the same key. The unofficial “Armenian Nationalist Youth Movement” assumes responsibility for the material. I can add – that this is perhaps the most disgusting thing I’ve seen in this campaign so far – really utterly disgusting.
  2. The second part consists of  some of the materials published on Uzogh’s blog several days ago. I must say, that the sections Uzogh has published on his blog are quite ok – in fact, I find it useful to remind everybody, what crimes have been committed against the Armenian nation with silent consent, or perhaps, even direct order of now presidential candidate Levon Ter-Petrossian. I find it horrible, that this man – Ter-Petrossian is continuously remembering Vano Siradeghyan, with fond words and calling him a great writer.
  3. The third part has someone calling himself a former KGB agent, who claims, that October 27 was organized by Levon Ter-Petrossian – this one is just so out of the way, that I couldn’t keep my laughter.

This DVD is apparently being distributed in response to the DVD containing compromising material against Serzh Sargsyan and Robert Kocharyan, that the LTP supporters have been giving out since October 2007. At any rate, I find this one, and the material in the First Part as described above totally morally wrong… going any futher in describing the creators would make me use improper wording, so I’ll stop. Let me just add, that although the materials on the DVD contain stuff from sources like AR TV, A1+, etc., I have reasons to believe, that it was edited and produced at Yerkir-Media studio. Adding to that the unofficial “Armenian Nationalist Youth Movement” – which sounds pretty Dashnak to me – has made me so utterly disappointed in my favorite ARF-Dashnaktsutyun, that I am now totally lost. This is just not a way to do a proper campaign!

  1. Really interesting. In Belarus opposition people distribute info via DVD as well…

  2. or maybe taking a strategy from Al Queda?

  3. […] 埼玉の中心から&aelig… placed an interesting blog post on One More Dirty DVD in CirculationHere’s a brief overview […]

  4. Or following Levon Ter-Petrossian’s precedent of first sowing seeds of hatred by disseminating information and making accusations. Sounds like the pro-government camp are once again learning lessons from the master himself. Elections in 1996 were the first case study. Elections now are the second.

  5. considering the extend of Levon’s lies, hypocrisy, corruption and indiscriminate attacks on anyone who doesn’t support him, i would not at all flinch for any negative dvd against Levon. For some reason Levon thinks he’s armenia’s favorite son and should be treated like a God, and the people who follow him seem like peasants obeying their hierarchy. It doesn’t really matter to me who put this DVD out.. but nevertheless congrats to them.

  6. Anahid, how can you congrat anyone for such things? I don’t think anyone else can say the same!
Anyway, I was really interested, when found out that ditord was utterly disappointed with dashnaktsutyun. That was really something new for me…

  7. Congratulation for ditord, because I was very angry while reading that ditord was voting for ARF_Dashnaktsutyun – Vahan is demagogue, and all their worldview is built on demagogy!…

  8. let’s see Levon plays to people’s emotions by blaming the Oct. 27 killings on his opposition, lies about Artsakh deal involving meghri land swap which was rejected outright and never a serious discussion, and the corruption of the current government but never mentioning that he was the creator of the corruption that is continuing today… i don’t know maybe you call that a demagogue!
as for Vahan, let’s see the guy advocates for resolution of Artaskh by either independence or joining to Armenia, advocates for genocide recognition and not just throwing the burden on the Diaspora, having a strong army to be a protector of Armenia, having a socially just country, improving economy by liberating it from monopolies to create competition… i don’t know maybe what he’s talking about falls within the platform of his party which over 100 years has been advocating the same things…
i make my decisions based on consistency and track record. In today’s Armenia you find parties based on certain individuals whom often have shady backgrounds and then you have dashnaktsooytoon who’s been working on and advocating the same consistent issues for over a century. The choice is quite clear to me in this election.

  9. I have to thank Anahid for her words and bringing back my shaky confidence in ARF-Dashnaktsutyun. I’ve never had any illusions about this party. I know they are not saints and are often as dirty, as others (but not always, like most of other political forces).
I can sense now, that they have sold themselves to Serzh, but I can’t really blame them. They have made campaign promises back in May 2007 campaign, and they have been implementing their promises via this cooperation with HHK. They know then can’t win this presidential elections, so they’re making a deal with HHK – why not? This is how politics works, and the ultimate goal is to make sure ARF policies and campaign promises are implemented, no? What I like about Dashnaktsutyun, is their consistency and readiness to work constructively under any circumstance, What’s wrong with cooperating with the force, who can help them deliver their program?
Speaking of the black propaganda DVD – I think Dashnaktsutyun or whoever else did it – were right after all. Levon’s team haven’t been campaigning properly, they started all this shit – and perhaps, they don’t deserve a proper reply, but only somethings like this DVD.
However, one of the main things I liked Dashnaktsutyun so far (and I still do), is their generally reserved tone and real attempts to campaign, instead of engaging in black PR.

  10. The first part of the DVD is rather low. It is not LTP’s father who is running for presidency. However, the second part is right on. Someone has to counter LTP’s lies, half-truths and ‘selective amnesia’. This brings me to the issue of election coverage, but I will write about it later.

  11. The use of “Armenian Nationalist Youth Movement” seems to be a shot at ARF. Sort of like killing 2 birds with one stone or in this case with one DVD

  12. This statement is in response to ARF member or sympathizer listed above and other so-called Armenians who are spreading unfounded information. Feel free to make additional comments.
First, I am 100% Armenian and my great grand father was the victim of 1915 massacres by the Ottoman Turks. I want Armenia to be a civil and prosperous nation that will be the pride of every Armenian. Secondly, can you point out any accomplishments by ARF? Blaming victims and condoning the beatings of innocent people is quite a heroic act by your ethics it seems…
Fedayees were patriots and heroes and are not comparable today’s ARF members, who are mere traitors and provocateurs. Wise up and find out Levon’s stance from his speeches and achievements. Learn something from it; it could improve your mind and body. He is a patriot and hero, which Armenia has not had for a long time, since Tigran the Great.
