Dr Armine Ishkanian from London School of Economics kindly informed me, about the upcoming book launch of the exciting new book (2008), “DEMOCRACY AND CIVIL SOCIETY IN POST-SOVIET ARMENIA by Dr Armine Ishkanian, London School of Economics”, which will take place in London, Sunday, 8 June 2008 at 7:00 pm
Armenian House, 25 Cheniston Gardens, W8 (Nearest tube: High Street Kensington).
The book (2008 ) considers the challenges of democracy building in post-Soviet Armenia, and the role of civil society in that process. It is the first book of its kind to examine the processes of post-Soviet democracy building in Armenia. It is based on extensive original research, including ethnographic fieldwork and interviews with
participants including civil society activists, donors, government
officials, oligarchs, and other stake holders. The book provides a
detailed account of democracy building and civil society strengthening programmes in Armenia since 1991 up to the present.
In her presentation of the book, Dr Ishkanian will also examine the
current developments in Armenia following the 2008 presidential
elections and consider the question of whether we are witnessing the reawakening of civil society in Armenia today.
