The snow was badly delayed this year. While its common to have the first snow in Yerevan late in November or early in December, this year’s first snow only came down on us on January 25. There’s global worming for you!
The municipal authorities were well prepared this time for a change. When I woke up this morning to take the kid to school, the main streets and even sidewalks were quite drivable/walkable in my Erebuni neighborhood.
The minibus driver told me the situation is similar in central Yerevan and even better in Avan neighborhood. Wow! I’m impressed! Every year in the past, the snow would create a lot of problems, and the authorities would always say the snow was unexpected and they were unprepared.
The snow was accompanied by thunder at some point yesterday, which triggered a lot of buzz around the Armenian internet section.
Meanwhile, for those who plan to travel around Armenia today, I’d like to point out, that the Ministry of Transport and Communication of Armenia features a very useful map, illustrating the situation on the roads of Armenia, which is updated quite frequently. As of this morning, the only road closed in Armenia is the Selim pass.
