Armenia Makes into Eurovision Finals

Armenia’s entry presented by Russian-Armenian singer Eva Rivas earned one of twenty five final spots in the pan-European song contest during a semifinal competition on Thursday.

Rivas (born Valeria Reshetnikova-Tsaturian) performed an English-language song, “Apricot Stone”, accompanied by famous Armenian duduk maestro Jivan Gasparian.

Even though the performance of Eva Rivas was weaker than her usual because of a problem with voice (she must have caught cold), it was still quite good, and Armenia’s entry was voted by the audiences in participating countries and experts into the final along with other Caucasus neighbors –  Azerbaijan’s Safura, Georgia’s Sofia Nizharadze.

The ultimate winner, as in the case with the semifinals, will be decided through a combination of a telephone-based public voting and a jury vote on Saturday. Meanwhile, here’s a clip of Eva’s performance in the semi-finals.

PS: My personal favorite so far from Eurovision entries is the Turkish rock band maNga, with robots in the background and vocals which remind me of Armenian band SOAD.

    • I’m not forcing anyone, I’m just suggesting… and Armenians in Armenia can’t vote for Eva Rivas anyway, so I voted Turkey, for example.
