More than a dozen private houses burned down in a central Yerevan location at the end of November in the worst fire Armenian capital had seen for years. About 3 weeks have passed, and municipal authorities have done nothing to help. More than 70 people, including children and women, are left to struggle in tents.
Yerevan mayor Gagik Beglarian had promised to help them by providing proper housing, but with his scandalous resignation, there seems no more help left for 17 families left homeless.
Meanwhile, the residents claim, that the fire in their district wasn’t accidental and the municipal authorities had marked the neighborhood as a redevelopment site, a charge, that officials have denied.
