A young and promising military doctor died 12 days after being beaten up by security guards in a restaurant belonging to one of Armenia’s influential oligarchs, RFE/RL reports.

Major Vahe Avetian, 35, head of Central Military Hospital’s Department of Otorhinolaryngology, was taken to intensive care therapy after he and several other military doctors were assaulted by “Harsnaqar”restaurant staff on June 17. The argument which led to beating the doctors by 15 members of the restaurant staff was apparently over a petty matter – the dress-code of the restaurant. What is astonishing, is just how bold are the security guards of “Harsnaqar” restaurant, which is owned by oligarch Ruben Hayrapetyan.

Seven men, most of them security guards, were arrested in an ensuing police investigation into the violence. One of them was then freed pending investigation, while the others were remanded in pre-trial custody on assault charges. Ruben Hayrapetyan condemned the incident, but denied responsibility. Armenian internet community is absolutely appalled by the incident. They are staging a protest action tomorrow in front of “Harsnaqar”. Meanwhile, many are especially angered by the fact, that there was some party in the restaurant today followed by loud fireworks a couple of hours after doctor Avetyan died.

  1. it is so sad to hear about our own people doing killing by beating or in other ways ,if they are rich it means they have right to do whatever they want or can .SHAD TSAVALI E
    I watch almost all armenian Tv programs on internet but it hurts when I hear this news about my people.

This low men security, that had never had anything in their life… but for the first time they were a simple security and felt so pourfull for been a cat at this restaurant owen by some powerful stupid ignorant person. Man should use power to make the good to be humble not to be an evil person and steping on their own people. What is wrong with this people in Armenia? I am not an Armenia thanks to god. But have been there. Even the car washers and waiters feel they are god. Shame on you people. You should have respect for people who went to university and have a degree. They do deserve respect.

  6. This is so ridiculous and sad at the same time. As if dealing with Azeri terrorists shooting across the border were not enough, now we have to also watch out how we dress in a mafia-owned restaurant in Armenia itself, otherwise we might be killed not with Azeri bullets, but Armenian hands and feet. And why must a child be deprived of her father? In a way this is not only murder, it is also child abuse! Every Armenian life is precious, shame shame shame!

Mans life is so cheap for the rich guys and his bodyguard….its a very shameful….all the rich guys in expensive cars and bodyguards around act so rudely that the normal people with family have to think 2 times before going to restaurant…the child has lost her father and she will never be able to get him back….because of the stupid and foolish bodyguards a normal family has lost a brother, a son, a husband, a father and many friends have lost a good friend…inchaneq akhper ???…amod..shat amod
