A secretly filmed video has emerged showing US Presidential candidate Mitt Romney disparaging Barack Obama voters at a private donor dinner.
The video, which has been making top news headlines around the world, has provided a unique insight into Romney’s rather opaque personality.
However, the video could be interesting for the readers of this blog for quite different reasons.
Here’s a quote of what Romney is saying in the video-cut above: “I have a very good team of extraordinarily experienced, highly successful consultants, a couple of people in particular who have done races around the world. These guys in the US—the Karl Rove equivalents—they do races all over the world: in Armenia, in Africa, in Israel.”
A colleague speculated on a related discussion on Facebook, that Romney is speaking of GOP strategist Charlie Black who had visited Armenia and presumably consulted the Serge Sargsyan campaign before the last election cycle.
PS: I wonder, if the advisers in question are still working in Armenia. And if they are, why do Armenian political campaign remain at such miserably low levels, when all the campaigning remains limited to personalities and never about policies…

I have some doubts, that it’s not Charles R. Black, mostly because cooperation, you mentioned have taken place in 2006-7. My humble knowledge of English hints me that “doing races” in Armenia, means (at least for me) field action during electoral processes, but I can’t say for sure.
When it comes to a level of political discussion, you have follow the taste of the consumers of this political process. To expect high level of political activity you have to make the voter to consume it. Remember, when LTP was lecturing the nation, there was a strong need for translators like Jhangiryan/Saghatelyan/A. Sargsyan who where translating from scholar armenian to a street one.
Yes, you have a point… And what I wrote, is mostly “a collection of dreams and good wishes”…
I very much hope, that having the firepower on Armenian TV, Sergsyan’s campaign can target such attempts to devaluate discussion and bring it into the street level.

Have you seen the Romney campaign? The GOP advisers might be the reason the electoral campaigns are so miserable in Armenia. That, and the fact that the votes are purchased so campaigns boil down to who has crisper 5000 dram bank notes.
