Diana Angelson’s ‘Armenia, My Love’ film-tribute to the victims of the Armenian Genocide will premiere today at 7:30 PM at the Laemmle Playhouse 7 movie theatre in Pasadena, as well as Laemmle NoHo 7 in North Hollywood and the MGN 5 Star cinema in Glendale.
The reason I’m writing about this, is because the film director wrote to me a while ago and sent the trailer. I was quite intrigued to find out that Angelson is Romanian, yet she found it important to pursue the story of the darkest days in the history of the Armenian nation.
“My intention was to give a tribute to those people and show how injustice has been perpetrated throughout time,” Angelson told Pasadena Weekly in a recent interview. “There is a need in redemption, as in the Holocaust, where the Germans have apologized, changed their attitude and swear to never repeat the mistakes of their past.”
I will, of course, be waiting impatiently for the film to come to Armenia as well. Meanwhile, the situation we have in Armenia reminds me so much of those dark times 100 years ago, as Armenia faces a new inflow of refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh’s Martakert region, which was subjected to indiscriminate shelling in a recent escalation of Armenian – Azerbaijani conflict.
And while propaganda both in Armenia and Azerbaijan paints the ugly face of the 4-day war in victorious colors, I cannot help but wonder what will become of people like the refugees in this video [in Armenian] from Talish village of Martakert, who have found shelter with their relatives in Armenia?
