40,000 first-graders will start school in Armenia on 2017

1st Day in School
According to the preliminary data published by the Armenian Ministry of Education 40,000 children will go to 1st grade today, as the new academic year starts in Armenia.

This is slightly down from last year, when the number of children starting school was estimated at 40360.
The total number of schoolchildren in the country will reach 364,868, which is slightly higher than last year’s 364,398. The slight growth in total number of children is mostly accounted for by migration fluctuations, as well as the fact that the authorities are enforcing a 12-year mandatory education starting from this year.
