I owe an explanation to the readers of my blog. I haven’t posted for quite a while. The reason – well, it’s complicated.
Armenia’s Ministry of Transport and Communication officially announced the start of a multimillion government project to upgrade Armenia’s main highways stretching more than 550 kilometers to neighboring Georgia and Iran, RFE/RL’s Armenian service (Azatutyun.am) reports.
A week-long sit-in by Armenian environmental activists was dispersed today as police used force to make space for the construction of fashion boutiques at the expense of the few remaining green areas in central Yerevan.
The activists have been claiming, that construction of the boutiques in the little ragged park lying on both sides of Yerevan’s widest and most central Mashtots avenue, should be called off.
Meanwhile, the municipal authorities say the construction is legal and should go on notwithstanding protests.
