Armenia has one of the world’s highest chess grandmaster density per million people according to this map posted on Reddit.
This is not surprising if we just look at this table of Armenian grandmasters and consider the fact that Chess is compulsory in Armenia’s schools. But I wonder, if there’s also something cultural about chess in the Transcaucasus, since both Georgia and Azerbaijan also score quite high in FIDE ratings.
