Scandalously famous son of Gyumri mayor seems to be responsible for yet another shooting incident near Sarnakbiur village of the Shirak region, which resulted in a 55 year-old being wounded and taken to hospital.
Gevorg Hakobian, a 54-year-old resident of the village of Sarnaghbyur, sustained a gunshot wound in the leg in an incident reported near the local reservoir. Police have confirmed the incident but so far named no suspect. According to the information published on the official police website, a preliminary investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The villagers were afraid to tell details of the incident in talking to RFE/RL’s correspondent, and rightfully so. The mayor of Gyumri and his family are notorious for their brutal character. Meanwhile, police have detained a group of young people, Spartak Ghukasian, Gyumri mayor’s son among them, in connection with the incident. It’s quite probable, that this time mayor’s influential family will pay one of the young man accompanying Spartak to admit of shooting to releive mayor’s son of a second conviction. In May 2007, Spartak Ghukasian was convicted and sentenced to 18 months in prison for his proved involvement in a high-profile gunfight between two groups of young men in the streets of Gyumri. He was granted parole after serving one third of the sentence.
Ironically, this incident’s might not have happened at all if Spartak Ghukasian had not been released early.
